Late Homers Lift YSU Over Butler

INDIANAPOLIS - Two Penguin home runs in the late innings lifted Youngstown State past Butler 12-4 on Friday afternoon. YSU totaled 17 hits on the day, nine more than the Bulldogs.

With Youngstown State leading 4-3, Dan Hurlimann blasted a two-run homer to right to put YSU up 6-3. After the Penguins added a run in the top of the 8th to lead 7-3, Drew Dosch hit a three-run shot to right in the final inning to turn the game into a rout. 

David Leon added an RBI single and another run scored on an error as Youngstown State put up five runs in the top of the 9th. 

Sophomore Marco Caponi sparked Butler with a two-run triple and a run in the bottom of the 5th. Senior Griffin Richeson had two hits and a walk and junior Radley Haddad also had two hits for BU.

Dosch and Hurlimann combined for seven RBIs. Three different Penguin players had three hits. Russ Harless pitched 6.0 innings for the win. 

Butler and Youngstown State are scheduled to play Saturday, May 5 at 1 p.m. ET. Senior Dom Silvestri, a Youngstown, Ohio, native, will start on the mound for Butler.
