INDIANAPOLIS - The Butler baseball program has added three standout players from three different states during the spring signing period. Michael Kseniak, Chris Maranto and Dillan Souther will join BU's roster in the fall of 2012.
Kseniak is a first team all-city player from Indianapolis powerhouse Cathedral. He won the team's quality at-bat award as a junior in 2011 and is a National Honor Society student. This spring, Kseniak has helped the team to a 15-2 record and a No. 6 ranking in Class 4A. On the football field, he won a state championship as a junior in 2010.
"Mike comes to Butler from Cathedral, one of the top programs in the state of Indiana," head coach Steve Farley said. "Mike can play third base and the outfield and he has been a very consistent hitter for the Irish. He attended our winter camp last December and we think he can be a very solid player for us."
Maranto, a Mundelein, Ill., native, led his team to a 28-7 record as a junior in 2011, earning all-county and all-conference recognition. He was also an honorable mention all-area performer. Maranto has been an honor roll student all throughout high school.
Farley is very high on the middle infielder from Mundelein High School.
"Chris is a guy who can play both middle infield positions. He runs well and has a strong throwing arm. Like all of our recruits, he comes from a great family. He is going to keep getting bigger and stronger and we think he has a bright future at Butler."
Souther, a pitcher from Spring, Texas, has a long list of baseball accolades. He is a 2012 Rawlings All-American honorable mention and an all-region player in Texas. He was 2011 Perfect Game Underclass All-American as well.
"Dillan is a good looking pitching prospect from the state of Texas. He has good command of three pitches and keeps the ball down in the strike zone," Farley said. "He is a hard worker and he will fit in well in our program."
