Big 5th Inning Dooms Butler
CHICAGO - UIC scored eight runs in the bottom of the 5th inning to break open an 11-2 win over the Butler baseball team on Friday night. Nick Addison hit a grand slam and drove in five runs for the Flames.
With UIC leading 2-1, Addison led off the Flames' half of the 5th with a walk. The next three batters singled and Alex Grunenwald delivered a two-run single. After a pitching change, the next two UIC batters reached. Addison then hit a shot to left to to give the Flames a 10-1 lead.
Alex Lee added an RBI double in the 7th inning for the home team's 11th run.
BU got on the board in the 4th when Haddad led off with a double to right field. He would later score on an error by Jacob McNamara. Marcos Calderon had an RBI in the top of the 8th.
UIC's Brian Evak pitched 5.0 innings for the win, allowing just one run on six hits. Two UIC relievers - Charlie Weinberg and Ryan Hinchley - combined for 4.0 innings without allowing an earned run.
Butler and UIC will play the regular season finale for both teams Saturday at 2:05 p.m. ET. Freshman Eric Stout will start for BU. The Bulldogs have locked into the No. 5 seed in next week's Horizon League Baseball Championship. They will open the tourney at UIC against the Flames next Wednesday.
