INDIANAPOLIS - The Butler baseball team played two 6-inning exhibitions vs. Taylor over the weekend. The Bulldog pitching staff threw 10 shutout innings and three players each had two hits for Butler.
The day was broken up into two 6-inning games, with the first finishing tied 3-3. Taylor won the second portion 5-3.
Lucas Calderon, Marco Caponi and Griffin Richeson each had two hits for the Bulldogs. Mike Hoscheit and Radley Haddad each hit a double. Five different pitchers combined for the 10 shutout innings, but Taylor put up big innings in the 2nd and 5th frames.
"Overall, I thought we played pretty good baseball," head coach Steve Farley said. "It was one of those days where our guys hit a lot of line drives right at people. It's frustrating for a batter when he squares up a ball and doesn't get rewarded for it, but that's baseball sometimes.
"We beat ourselves in a couple of innings by not throwing strikes and not making a couple of routine plays. I see a lot of positives with this group and we'll continue to keep getting better this fall."
The Bulldogs will take on Parkland College Saturday, Oct. 1 at 1 p.m.
