The Butler baseball team will spend part of its spring break week in the desert, taking on 2012 College World Series champ Arizona March 12-13.
Butler is headed to Tucson after playing a three-game series against IPFW. Butler's starting pitching was at its best over the weekend, as each of BU's three starters went 7.0 innings. Sophomore Eric Stout pitched a one-hitter in a 1-0 win on Saturday. Right-handers Kyle Kramp and Billy Laing each went seven in no decisions. Kramp fanned eight batters in a 4-3 extra-inning loss and Laing struck out 11 on Sunday.
Offensively, the Bulldogs have been led by seniors Jack Dillon and Jimmy Risi. Dillon, who homered against IPFW on Sunday, is batting a team-best .423 while slugging .654. Risi has five home runs and 15 RBIs to go along with a team-best slugging percentage of .755. Risi is third on the team with a .347 batting average. Freshman Mike Kseniak is hitting .375, second on the team.
Senior lefty Kevin Lenkman will start Tuesday night's game. Lenkman enters with an 0-1 record in three starts. He has pitched 16.0 innings and struck out 10. Butler has not listed Wednesday's starter. Arizona will be countering with lefty Tyler Crawford on Tuesday and righty Tyger Talley. Crawford is 2-1 with a 2.65 ERA and will be making his fourth start. Talley is predominantly a reliever and will be making his second start of the year. He owns a 1.35 ERA in 13.1 innings.
After playing Arizona, the Bulldogs are scheduled to play Northern Kentucky and Eastern Michigan at the end of the week in Ypsilanti, Mich.
