TUCSON, Ariz. - For the second straight day, the 20th-ranked Arizona Wildcats defeated the Butler baseball team by a 14-2 margin at Hi Corbett Field.
The left side of Butler's infield, Patrick Guinane and Marco Caponi, each had two hits and freshman James Baker drove in a run late in the game. It was BU's second and final game against Arizona, the 2012 national champion.
Senior Jack Dillon doubled and scored on a Guinane single in the top of the 2nd to pull the Bulldogs within 2-1. The Wildcats responded by scoring in each of the next five innings. UA scored seven runs in the middle innings to take command of the game.
BU's second run came when Gelwicks singled and advanced to third on a walk and another hit by Guinane. Gelwicks then scored on a fielder's choice by Baker.
Arizona's Brandon Dixon went 4-for-5 including a homer, walk, double and two singles. He scored five runs. For the two games against Butler, Dixon was 8-for-10 with seven RBIs and three home runs. Trent Gilbert added a 4-for-4 effort and scored three runs.
Butler (5-9) is scheduled to play four games this weekend in Ypsilanti, Mich. The Bulldogs will play twice each against Northern Kentucky and Eastern Michigan March 15-17.
