Bulldogs Rout Eastern Michigan

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - A three-run homer by sophomore Michael Fries and a complete game from senior Kyle Kramp lifted the Butler baseball team to a 9-2 win over Eastern Michigan on Saturday.

The Bulldogs led 3-0 when they started a big inning in the middle of the order. Singles by Patrick Guinane and Mike Kseniak set the table for Fries with one out in the top of the 6th. Fries then hit a ball over the fence in right-center to put the Dawgs ahead 6-0.

Butler (7-9) scored twice more in the top of the 7th, both runs unearned. Guinane smacked an RBI triple and scored and senior Jimmy Risi had an RBI single. Junior Marcos Calderon led off the top of the 9th with a solo homer to complete the scoring for BU, which improved to 2-0 on the weekend.

Kramp (3-0) was in control the entire game. He worked the whole game in 103 pitches, allowing just four hits and two unearned runs. He struck out three and walked one.

"Outstanding pitching from Kyle Kramp today," head coach Steve Farley said. "Some big hits on offense and a couple of nice plays on defense against a solid EMU team."

Eastern Michigan's only two runs came on a pair of Butler errors in the bottom of the 8th. Two Eagles reached on an error before Dae Bowden doubled to right. No EMU player had more than one hit on the day.

Marcos Calderon, hitting leadoff, went 3-for-5 while four other Bulldogs (Risi, Kseniak, Fries and Guinane) each had two hits.

Butler will play Northern Kentucky and Eastern Michigan Sunday, March 17 to conclude the team's spring break week.
