ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. - St. Bonaventure scored two unearned runs in the bottom of the 8th to pull past the Butler baseball team 3-1 on Sunday. The Bonnies won two of three over the weekend.
After walking the leadoff many to begin the 8th, the Bulldogs committed a throwing error and a catcher's interference that had a hand in the decisive inning. BU committed three errors on the day.
SBU led 1-0 until the Dawgs tied the game in the top of the 7th. Sophomore Michael Fries singled and scored bunt by freshman Mike Kseniak. Senior Jimmy Risi doubled in the inning but was stranded at 3rd base.
Seniors Billy Laing and Chase Byerly pitched for Butler. Laing held the Bonnies to one run on five hits over 6.0 innings. Byerly was tagged with the loss, but both of the runs on his ledger were unearned.
SBU's Steve Klimek worked 7.2 innings and allowed just one run in a no-decision effort. Asa Johnson was credited with the win in relief.
Butler is scheduled to play at Purdue Tuesday, April 2. Saint Louis comes to Bulldog Park for three games next weekend.
