LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Butler baseball team won its sixth straight game, defeating Division II school Bellarmine 7-4 on Tuesday.
Freshman Nick Saldutti went 2-for-3 with a walk and scored the game-tying run in the top o fthe 4th after Bellarmine had taken a 3-0 lead. The host Knights made six errors on the day, leading to three unearned runs scored by the Bulldogs.
Butler (23-18) got RBI singles from Radley Haddad and Patrick Guinane in the 5th inning to take the lead for good. Guinane reached on a throwing error in the 7th and scored an insurance run when senior Lucas Calderon singled later in the inning.
Sophomore Austin Miller was the only player in the game to score two runs. Billy Laing started and pitched three innings, followed by five relievers. Will Schierholz pitched 2.0 innings and was credited with his first win of the season. Senior Chase Byerly notched his seventh save after working an easy 9th inning.
The Bulldogs will play three games at Charlotte this weekend. Charlotte and Butler are two of four teams tied in the A-10 standings at 10-5. Rhode Island and Xavier are also 10-5 in league play.
