Baseball Inks Four during Early Signing Period

INDIANAPOLIS – Butler Head Coach Steve Farley has added four talented student-athletes to the Butler baseball program. Garrett Christman, Tyler Houston, Connor Mitchell, and Austin Jetel all signed a National Letter of Intent to attend Butler University in the fall of 2014.

"We are very excited about this outstanding group of players coming to Butler next fall," Head Coach Steve Farley explained. "All of these guys are top students and they come from great families. All four were ranked among the Top 50 prospects in their respective states by Prep Baseball Report."

Summer team: Indiana Mustangs

Christman is a local product from Noblesville High School. He has three varsity letters to his credit and was recently recognized as a Preseason Under-Armour All-American. A member of the National Honors Society, Christman was also an East Coast Pro Showcase selection on the field. "Garrett is a solid defender with an outstanding swing from the left side of the plate," Farley added.

Brownsburg, Ind.            
Summer team: Indiana Bulls

Houston is a 4A First Team All-State selection that was recently named to the Indianapolis Star Baseball Super Team. He earned Hoosier Crossroads All-Conference First Team honors after his junior season along with being named First Team All-Hendricks County. "Tyler is an excellent right-handed hitter with above average speed and an accurate throwing arm," Farley said.

Plainfield, Ind. 
Summer team: Indiana Mustangs

Mitchell will try to break into the Butler rotation next season after wrapping up his senior year at Plainfield H.S. He is currently ranked No. 31 in Indiana's 2014 class by Prep Baseball Report. Mitchell was selected to play in the Hoosier Crossroad Series and he was also an honorable mention Perfect Game All-American. An exceptional student, Mitchell is a Plainfield H.S. Ambassador and a member of the National Honor Society. "Connor is a tall, projectable left-handed pitcher with solid mechanics and improving command of three pitches," Farley stated.

Austin Jetel

Hoffman Estates, Ill.                     
Summer team: Top Tier

Jetel is the only recruit not from the state of Indiana and he hails from Hoffman Estates, Ill. a suburb of Chicago. The first baseman was a First Team All-Area player as well as a First Team All-Conference selection in the Mid-Suburban League. "Austin runs well, is a capable defender and projects to hit for both average and power from the left side of the plate," Farley said.

"All four of these players have the potential to be impact players in our program and these guys will help us get to where we want to go in the Big East Conference," Farley added.
