CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. – Butler picked up their 10th win of the season on Wednesday afternoon with a 6-2 victory over Wabash. The Bulldogs scored four runs in the top of the third inning to secure their first road win of the season.
Quincy Quintero went 3-for-5 from the plate while Michael Fries led the team with two RBIs as Butler recorded their third-straight win. Defensively, Butler was led by Peter Nyznyk who picked up his first win on the hill. Nyznyk tossed seven complete innings and struck out five. Danny Pobereyko came in for the final two innings. He shut out Wabash while striking out one.
The turning point on Wednesday came in the top of the third as Butler scored four runs off four hits. The action got started with back-to-back singles from Nick Bartolone and Chris Marras. Marcos Calderon drew a walk that would load the bases and the first run of the game would come in off a Chris Maranto single through the left side of the infield.
Fries would extend the lead with a two RBI single down the third base line. Marras and Calderon scored off the base knock.
Wabash would get the first out of the inning via strikeout, but another free base would load up the bases as Ryan Wojciechowski took first base after being hit by a pitch. Mike Kseniak would give Butler a sacrifice fly to deep right field to end the scoring run, and a pop up to second base would end the inning.
A double steal gave Butler their fifth run of the game in the fourth and the final run for BU would come in off a sacrifice fly from Marco Caponi in the seventh.
The team will return to action with a doubleheader in Louisville on Saturday. The 'Dogs will face Xavier before playing nationally-ranked Louisville.
