Butler Defeats Marian, 5-3

Junior Matt Ferguson had two hits and drove in two runs and senior Clayton Deeb scored a pair of runs to help lead Butler to a 5-3 victory over Marian in a non-league game at Bulldog Park on Wednesday, Feb. 22. The game was a late addition to Butler's 2006 schedule.

Ferguson had two of Butler's six hits in the scheduled eight-inning contest, and he drove in two of the Bulldogs' five runs. He drove in a Deeb with a single in the third inning and freshman Austin Nickol with a double in the fifth frame.

Deeb opened the fifth inning with a double and then scored on a ground out by junior Aaron Thompson. Butler also picked up hits from Nickol, freshman Mike Stout and junior Ricky Chomicz.

Freshman Ryan Kruszka, the first of six pitchers for Butler (2-1) in the contest, earned his first collegiate victory with two scoreless innings of work.

Butler will host IPFW at 3 p.m. (EST) on Friday, Feb. 24, in another late addition to the 2006 schedule.
