Butler Edges Indiana Tech, 3-2

Senior Randy Miles allowed one hit and one unearned run in eight innings of work to help lead Butler to a 3-2 victory over visiting Indiana Tech in a non-league game at Bulldog Park on Tuesday, March 23. The victory, Butler's second straight, lifted the Bulldogs to 6-10 on the season, while Indiana Tech fell to 7-9.
Miles surrendered an unearned run in the first inning and then blanked the Warriors for seven straight innings, before leaving the game after the eighth inning. Miles, who improved to 2-1 on the season, recorded six strikeouts and just one walk. Sophomore Luke Behning pitched the ninth inning and was nicked for an unearned run before picking up his first save of the season.
Butler tied the game in the bottom of the third inning on a run-scoring single by catcher Joe Dempsey. The Bulldogs then took the lead for good in the bottom of the fourth inning on a run-scoring single by leftfielder Aaron Thompson. Sophomore Stephen Gill scored the final and decisive run for the Bulldogs on the second half of a double steal attempt in the eighth inning. Gill had reached base on a double to leftfield.
Thompson, getting his first start for the Bulldogs had two hits in two trips to the plate, while Dempsey and Gill each had two hits in for at bats. Butler had 10 total hits for the game.
The Bulldogs will face another instate foe on Wednesday when they travel to Terre Haute for a 3 p.m. (EST) game against Indiana State.
