Butler Defeats Wabash, 8-2
April 6, 2004
Butler sophomore Patrick Feeney pitched eight shutout innings and picked up his first career win while helping the Bulldogs to an 8-2 victory over visiting Wabash at Bulldog Park on Tuesday, April 6. The win lifted Butler to 10-15 on the year, while Wabash fell to 11-15.
Feeney, getting his first collegiate start, blanked the Little Giants on four hits through the first eight innings of the contest. He had four strikeouts and no walks, and he didn't allow a Wabash runner past first base. The Butler right-hander left the game after the eighth inning with the Bulldogs holding an 8-0 lead.
Butler jumped on Wabash starter Travis Moore with four runs in the fourth inning. The big blow was a two-run double to centerfield by third baseman Jeff Brown. Sophomore Andy Bulla also had a run-scoring single in the inning.
The Bulldogs added four more runs in the seventh inning. Freshman Joe Dempsey opened the inning with his second career home run, a towering shot over the rightfield wall. Bulla added a run-scoring double, while sophomore Clayton Deeb and Brown each chipped in with run-scoring singles.
Wabash scored all of its runs in the ninth inning off of senior left-hander Ryan Chenoweth, who came on in relief of Feeney.
Butler continues its homestand on Wednesday, April 7, with a single nine-inning game against Marian College. That contest is slated for 3 p.m. (EST) at Bulldog Park.
