Milwaukee, Wis. - Joe Pauley picked up his 11th and 12th homers of the season as the Bulldogs tried to rally in the second game of a double-header at Milwaukee, but the host Panthers would hold on in the end, topping Butler 9-5 on Saturday (May 10) afternoon at Henry Aaron Field. UWM scored 12 runs before the Bulldogs got on the board as the Panthers worked a 12-1 decision in the first game of the twin-bill.
Milwaukee staked itself to a 5-0 lead early in the second game before the Bulldogs climbed back into the contest in the fifth inning. Colin Ziegel and Grant Fillipitch led off the frame with singles before Pauley came up and roped his 11th home run of the season to right center field and cut the deficit to two.
Pauley would return to the plate in the seventh and line the first pitch of the inning to left center to cut the Panther lead to 5-4.
Butler could get no closer, however, as UWM picked up a pair of runs in both the bottom of the seventh and eighth to push ahead by five.
Pauley finished the game with four RBI and three runs scored, while his 12 homers on the year lead the team. Ziegel and Kyle McLaughlin added two hits each.
The opening game of the afternoon was all Milwaukee, as the Panthers jumped for 12 runs, including six in the third, before the Bulldogs broke the shut-out in the ninth.
Jason Jamerson picked up two of the Bulldogs' four hits in the game.
Butler returns to action on Sunday (May 11) when it hosts Valparaiso in a double-header beginning at 12:00 noon at Bulldog Park.
