Butler Tops Sinclair, 8-2, In Fall Season Opener

Sept. 20, 2008

Indianapolis, Ind. - Sophomore Grant Fillipitch homered and solid defensive play helped the Bulldogs to an 8-2 victory over visiting Sinclair Community College on Saturday (Sept. 20) afternoon at Bulldog Park.

Fillipitch put Butler on the board in the second inning, roping an opposite field solo shot for a 1-0 lead.

Sinclair battled their way back to tie the game, but an RBI double by Jason Jamerson scored the go ahead run. Butler would go on to score five more runs in the final three frames.

Alex Montagano finished with a pair of singles and an RBI in the contest.

Joe Ochs and Ryan Salvino each tossed scoreless innings in the contest, while Matt Sokolowski threw 70 percent of his pitches for strikes in his first outing of the year.

Butler out-hit Sinclair, 11 to 6, and played flawless defense in the field.

The Bulldogs continue their fall season on Saturday (Sept. 27) when they host Indianapolis beginning at 11:00 a.m. at Bulldog Park.
