Butler Claims Two Wins Against Indianapolis, Rend Lake

Sept. 27, 2008

Indianapolis, Ind. - Butler picked up a pair of shut-out victories in exhibition contests on Saturday (Sept. 27) afternoon, as the Bulldogs scored a 3-0 win over Indianapolis before claiming a 10-0 triumph over Rend Lake at Bulldog Park.

The Butler pitchers combined for 14 scoreless frames on the day, allowing just two walks while striking out 13. Joe Ochs, Ryan Kruszka, Jared Wagoner, Matt Sokolowski, Evan DePotter, Jamie Feldheiser and Mike Hernandez each worked two innings, with Ochs tossing a team-best 75 percent of his pitches for strikes.

The Bulldog bats, meanwhile, made sure the pitching had plenty of breathing room. Butler scored all three of its runs against Indianapolis in the bottom of the first on RBI singles by Grant Fillipitch, Mike Hosheit and Steve Darragh.

Butler came out swinging in its second game of the afternoon, plating six runs in the fourth inning, including a three-run double by Michael Letzter. Colin Ziegel added a pair of hits in his first appearance of the fall after rehabbing an injury, while Nick Hladek, Tim Conroy, Peter Winter and Dan Robinson also added two hits each.

Butler concludes its fall intersquad season on Saturday (Oct. 4) when it hosts Vincennes beginning at 1:00 p.m. at Bulldog Park. The game will also serve as Alumni Day, with past players invited to take batting practice with the team at 10:30 a.m. and a cookout to follow.
