2003 Butler Baseball Recruits

Butler's baseball squad, which loses four seniors from the 2002 roster, has received commitments from several high school players for next season. Following is a list of high school players signed to play at Butler in 2003:

Jon Mueller, OF, La Crosse, Wis./Logan H.S. - Honorable mention all-city...second team all-conference...honorable mention all-state...2000 AAA Legion State Tournament team...state champs in both high school and Legion (AAA)...first team all-conference wide receiver on football team...brother of current Butler outfielder, Dale Mueller.

Brian Smith, LHP, Brownsburg, Ind./Brownsburg H.S. - Pitched three high school varsity no-hitters...owns school record for strikeouts in a single game (18)...six-year member of the Indiana Bulls summer baseball team.

Craig Costello, LHP, LaPorte, Ind./LaPorte H.S. - Member of LaPorte's 2000 state championship team...two-year all-conference pitcher...named all-area in 2001.

Josh Rudolfi, LHP, Glenview, Ill./Glenbrook South H.S. - One of the top pitching prospects in the Chicago area...all-conference pitcher...prep squad's "Rookie of the Year"...participated in the Junior Showcase.

Brandon Tormoehlen, C, Brownstown, Ind./Brownstown Central H.S. - Varsity starting catcher since freshman season...all-conference...holds school records for RBI's in a game (8) and in a season (74)...set school record for runners thrown out stealing...two-year member of the Indiana Bulls...recipient of the A. J. Zapp scholarship with the Bulls for the 2002 season...all-state linebacker.

Patrick Feeney, RHP, Grayslake, Ill./Grayslake H.S. - Three-year varsity pitcher...led high school team in innings pitched, strikeouts and complete games for two straight years...named to the Northwest Suburban Junior Showcase Tournament...pitched a no-hitter in summer state tournament game.

Steve Johnson, 1B/DH, Cincinnati, Ohio/Summit Country Day H.S. - First team all-city and all-league performer...high school team MVP...two-time Cincinnati High School Fall Baseball All-Star.

Mike Rosen, OF/3B, Munster, Ind./Munster H.S. - First team all-conference and all-area performer...pre-season all-state pick in 2002.

Stephen Gill, SS, Merrillville, Ind./Merillville H.S. - One of the top shortstops in Indiana...four-year high school starter...two-year all-area and all-conference player...led team in hitting as a sophomore (.462) and as a junior (.427)...two-year Hoosier Diamond All-State...three-year football starter.

Clayton Deeb, P/Inf., Valparaiso, Ind./Boone Grove H.S. - Key performer on top-ranked team in Indiana...two-year all-conference player...honorable mention all-state as a junior...South Central Classic MVP in 2000...all-area in 2001.

Andrew Bulla, C, Wheatfield, Ind./Kankakee Valley H.S. - One of the top prospects at catcher in Indiana this spring...first team all-area...honorable mention all-state...team leader in batting and home runs for two straight years...led high school squad in runs batted in, steals and on-base percentage this spring.

Luke Behning, P, Ft. Wayne, Ind./Concordia Lutheran H.S. Three-year baseball letterwinner...team captain...pre-seasons 3A All-State...Junior All-State...received team's "Mr. Control" award...attended Top Guns in Las Vegas and Team One at Notre Dame...undefeated in conference as a senior...varsity letterwinner in basektball, baseball, soccer and cross country.

Scott McGuigan, C/3B, Blenheim, Ontario, Canada/Blenheim District H.S. Top prospect from Team Ontario...helped Team Ontario to the NABF World Series in Newark, Delaware...hit a walk-off grand slam in the semifinals of the Canadian Classic, hosted by Rawlings...named the top male athlete of his high school graduating class.

Michael Tomaszewski, P, Griffith, Ind./Griffith H.S. (Parkland College) All-state high school pitcher...two-year all-conference and all-area player...2001 NW Indiana Times Player of the Year...high school team's MVP...selected to play in the 2001 Indiana High School North-South All-Star game...helped lead Griffith to the Indiana state finals as a senior...led Parkland College to the Junior College National Championship in 2002.

Justin McKinley, SS, Cokato, Minn./Dassel-Cokato H.S. (Des Moines Area C.C.) Two-year all-conference player in high school...two-year team MVP...won high school team's Golden Bat Award in 1999 and 2000 and captured squad's Golden Arm Award in 1999...named to the Lion's All-Star team in 2000...all-conference performer in football and hockey.

Jon Bjelland, P, Barron, Wis./Barron H.S. Second team all-state pitcher in 2002...three-year all-conference performer...two-year team MVP...named to the WBCA All-Star Classic and the Jim Gantner All-Star Classic...Academic All-State player...broke school records for wins in a season (10), strikeouts in a season (156), strikeouts in a seven-inning game (21) and career strikeouts (260).

Shane Winkler, OF, Kentland, Ind./South Newton H.S. (Illinois Central College) Four-year baseball letterwinner in high school...all-conference and all-area performer in 1999...named area MVP and team MVP...batted .506 with 10 home runs and 32 stolen bases in final prep season...named all-area for two straight years in football.

Dan Fair, P, Brownsburg, Ind./Brownsburg H.S. Earned four varsity letters in baseball at Brownsburg...earned all-conference and All-Metro West honors...named to the junior all-star team...led his high school team in earned run average as a senior.
