Indianapolis, Ind. - Former Butler outfielder Dustin Bucalo will continue his playing career in the professional ranks after signing with the Oneida Barge Bucs of the New York State League. He is the third former Butler player to sign a pro contract this year.
Bucalo finished his senior season with the Bulldogs last spring, leading the team with a .339 average, a .398 on base percentage and seven steals. One of the top defensive outfielders in the Horizon League during his career, he played an errorless centerfield in 2007 while making 95 putouts and three assists.
Bucalo will be playing in the same league as former teammate and catcher Joe Dempsey, who signed with the Utica Brewmasters last month. Former infielder and assistant coach Jeff Brown also inked a contract to play for the Traverse City Beach Bums of the Frontier League in May.
Six former Bulldogs are currently playing in the professional ranks, including Minnesota Twins reliever Pat Neshek.
