Indianapolis, Ind. - Team Brown claimed the annual Butler World Series on Saturday (Oct. 11) at Bulldog Park, completing the two-game sweep of Team Tyner in the best of three series with an 8-3 decision.
Team Brown (coached by assistant coach Jeff Brown) received a solid outing from winning pitcher Joe Ochs, who worked three scoreless frames. Dominic Silvestri and Ryan Salvino added a shut-out inning as well to aid the cause.
The offense, meanwhile, gave the pitching staff all the support it needed in defeating Team Tyner (coached by assistant coach Matt Tyner), as Grant Fillipitch picked up a double, single and a pair of walks while Michael Letzter roped a pair of doubles of his own.
Team Brown took the opening game of the series on Wednesday (Oct. 8), dealing Team Tyner a 6-4 set-back.
Team Brown got all the offense it needed from two swings, as Fillipitch belted a grand slam and Bobby Mosser added a two-run shot to propel the offense. Team Tyner got to pitcher Matt Sokolowski for three runs, but relievers Tyler Szymczak and Evan DePotter held their opponents hitless for the final three innings to preserve the win.
The Bulldogs will now begin a three week strength and conditioning program and positional workouts. The annual "Long Ball in the Fall" is scheduled for Oct. 25.
