Butler Drops Hanover, 80-41, In Exhibition Game
INDIANAPOLIS, IND.. -- Junior Shelvin
Mack scored a game-high 13 points and senior Matt
Howard added a double-double to lead Butler to an 80-41 victory
over visiting Hanover in an exhibition contest at Hinkle Fieldhouse
on Thursday, Nov. 4. The game was the final preseason test
for the Bulldogs.
Howard hit a layup on Butler's first possession in the game and
Mack nailed a three-point field goal on the second to give the
Bulldogs an early 5-0 lead. The Bulldogs went on to hit their
first eight shots in the game, sparking a 21-5 opening run.
Hanover never got closer than 13 points for the rest of the
contest.
"I was pleased with our energy and our focus. I thought it
was pretty good all the way through," said Butler head coach Brad
Stevens after the game. "We played a lot of different
combinations, and I don't think it waned a whole lot with those
different combinations in."
"We've got some things that we can obviously work on and get
better, but for the most part a lot of guys got a lot of minutes
and a lot of experience, and there's a lot of film to teach from,
and that's kind of the goal of exhibition games."
Mack scored seven points in the first half and added six more in
the second period, while playing a total of 19 minutes.
Howard finished with 12 points and a game-high 10 rebounds in 21
minutes. Freshman Khyle
Marshall came off the bench and added 11 points and
six rebounds in 18 minutes.
Stevens used all 14 players, with only Howard playing more than 19
minutes. Eleven different players cracked the scoring
column. Drake Hendricks led Hanover with seven points.
The Bulldogs, who defeated Florida Southern, 90-70, in their
opening exhibition game, will begin the regular season at home on
Saturday, Nov. 13, against Marian. The season-opener at
Hinkle Fieldhouse is scheduled for 2 p.m., and will feature the
unveiling of Butler's 2010 Final Four banner.
