Butler To Face Dayton In Conference Tournament
INDIANAPOLIS, IND. -- Butler, coming off back-to-back wins to end the regular season, will meet Dayton on Thursday, March 14, in the first round of the 2013 Atlantic 10 Conference Men's Basketball Championship at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. The game between the fifth-seeded Bulldogs and No. 12 seed Dayton is slated for 2:30 p.m. (ET) and will be televised by NBC Sports Network.
The Bulldogs (24-7, 11-5 A-10) finished the regular season with a 73-62 victory at Massachusetts on Thursday (March 7) and a 67-62 win at home over Xavier on Saturday (March 9). The two wins lifted Butler into a tie with Temple and La Salle for third place in the final A-10 regular season standings. Temple earned the No. 3 seed in the conference tournament, while La Salle was seeded fourth.
Saint Louis, the A-10 regular season champion, enters the 12-team tournament as the No. 1 seed, while league runner-up VCU is the No. 2 seed. Those two teams join Temple and La Salle with a bye to the quarterfinals of the championship.
Richmond claimed the No. 8 seed in the tournament and will meet No. 9 seed Charlotte in the tournament's opening game at noon on Thursday. No. 7 seed Xavier will play No. 10 seed Saint Joseph's at 6:30 p.m. and No. 6 seed Massachusetts will face No. 11 seed George Washington at 9 p.m.
The winner of the Butler-Dayton game will advance to meet La Salle on Friday at 2:30 p.m., in the tournament quarterfinals.
The A-10 Championship semifinal are scheduled for Saturday, March 16, with the title game set for 1 p.m. on Sunday, March 17. The conference championship game will be televised nationally on CBS.
