Bulldogs Capture Australia Opener
SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA -- Kellen Dunham scored a game-high 22 points and Erik Fromm added 14 to lead Butler to a 77-65 victory over Norths Bears Invitational Team in the first game of a four-game Australia tour on Tuesday (Aug. 6). The exhibition contest was played just one day after the Bulldogs arrived in Sydney, following an 18-hour flight from the United States.
Dunham, heading into his second season with the Bulldogs, hit five of 11 attempts from beyond the three-point arc to spark the Bulldogs. As a team, the Bulldogs hit 10 three-pointers in the win.
Fromm, getting the start at center, connected on five of seven shots in the contest and pulled down six rebounds. Kameron Woods led the Bulldogs with 10 rebounds, while Khyle Marshall added seven. Butler out-rebbounded its Australian foe, 40-33.
Guard Jackson Aldridge, playing in his home country, got the start at point-guard for the Bulldogs, and he finished with two points, a team-high three assists and one rebound in 13 minutes. New head coach Brandon Miller used 15 different players in the win.
The Bulldogs trailed by eight points after the first period, but battled back to tie the contest at halftime, 37-37. Butler opened a seven-point lead, 56-49, after three periods and then stretched the final margin to 12 points.
Nick Blair led Norths with 21 points.
The opening game capped a day that began with a trip to the Wild Life Sydney Zoo. The Bulldogs will tour Sydney and continue to train on Wednesday (Aug. 7), before returning to the court for a game against the Sydney Kings on Thursday (Aug. 8).
