Bulldogs Fall To Australian National Team

CANBERRA, AUSTRALIA -- The Australian Boomers, featuring the nation's best players, jumped to an early lead and then pulled away to a 96-57 victory over Butler in an exhibition game in Canberra on Saturday (Aug. 10).  It was Butler's third game in Australia and the team's first setback.

The Australian National Team, featuring a number of professional players, grabbed a 33-11 lead in the first quarter and never looked back.  The Bulldogs did close to 47-32 at halftime, but the Boomers pulled away in the second half.

Patty Mills, who's with the San Antonio Spurs, and Joe Ingles led the Boomers with 17 points apiece, while Luke Nevill added 14 points and six rebounds.  Former Valparaiso player Ryan Broekhoff had 12 points in the win.

The Boomers shot 53% from the field and 42% from beyond the three-point arc in the game.

Kellen Dunham led the Bulldogs with 16 points, while Erik Fromm, Nolan Berry and Khyle Marshall each added seven.  Kameron Woods had a team-high seven rebounds.

The Bulldogs will close out their four-game tour on Sunday in Cairns with a game against the Cairns Taipans.
