Micah Shrewsberry, men's basketball head coach at Indiana University South Bend, has been named Coordinator of Basketball Operations at Butler University. He steps into the position held last year by Joel Cornette, who left Butler to join former coach Todd Lickliter at the University of Iowa.
Shrewsberry, a former basketball player at Cathedral High School in Indianapolis and at Hanover College, has guided the basketball program at IU-South Bend for the past two seasons. He was named the school's first full-time men's basketball coach in July of 2005. In addition to directing all phases of the NAIA Division I program, he established the Titan Tip-Off Club and initiated the school's first Alumni Game. He served as Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Division I Men's Basketball Chair in 2006-07.
"Micah brings a wealth of experience," said new Butler head coach Brad Stevens. "We feel very fortunate to add a person to our staff who has had experience as a head coach and who is an Indianapolis guy."
Prior to accepting the head coaching position at IU-South Bend, Shrewsberry served as Director of Basketball Operations at Marshall University for two years, 2003-2005. He also served as an assistant men's basketball coach at DePauw University (2001-2003), helping the Tigers to a 42-12 record over two seasons, and at Wabash College (2000-01). He further held a graduate assistant basketball coaching position at the University of Indianapolis (1999-2000).
Shrewsberry was a three-year starting point-guard and a team tri-captain (1998-99) at Hanover College. He led the Heartland COllegiate Athletic Conference in free throw shooting and in assists as a senior. He earned a B.A. degree from Hanover in 1999 and a master's degree in sports management from Indiana State in 2003.
MAYBE YOU MISSED THIS: During the 1997-98 season, Hanover College defeated DePauw University, 57-49, in a men's basketball game. The leading scorer for Hanover in that game was Micah Shrewsberry with 13 points. Brad Stevens led DePauw with nine points.
