Butler Completes 2013 Football Recruiting Class
Six months after wrapping up a share of the Pioneer Football League championship, Butler took another step toward its next conference run with the completion of its 2013 recruiting class. Head coach Jeff Voris added 24 players to bolster Butler’s fall roster, which includes 43 returning letterwinners.

Butler Football Players Honored
Butler seniors Jordan Ridley and Matt Storey were among 703 college football players from all divisions of play named to the 2013 National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame (NFF) Hampshire Honor Society. The players represented 259 schools, the most in the seven-year history of the society.

Blue Tops White, 20-0, In Butler Spring Game
Quarterback Matt Lancaster rushed for one touchdown and passed for another to lead the Blue team to a 20-0 victory over the White team in Butler’s annual Spring Football Game on Saturday (April 20). The intersquad game at the Butler Bowl wrapped up Butler’s spring practice season.

Butler Closes Spring Practice With Blue-White Game
Butler will close out five weeks of spring football practice with the annual Blue-White Spring Game on Saturday, April 20. The intersquad game will kickoff at 10:30 a.m., at the Butler Bowl, and admission is free.

Butler Unveils 12-Game Football Schedule
Butler will face a 12-game, regular season football schedule for the first time in school history when it takes the field in the fall of 2013. The Bulldogs, coming off a championship campaign, will play six home games, including the first-ever visit from an Ivy League opponent.

Bulldogs Begin Spring Football Practice
Butler kicks off five weeks of spring football practice with its first workout at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 20. The Bulldogs will have 15 practice sessions, which will conclude on Saturday, April 20, the annual Spring Game.

Bill Sylvester Honored At NFF Dinner
Former Butler head football coach and athletic director Bill Sylvester received the Distinguished American Award from the National Football Foundation/College Hall of Fame Central Indiana Chapter on Saturday (Feb. 23). He was one of 20 individuals honored at the organization’s annual banquet at the Indianapolis Colts Complex.

Butler places 61 on 2012 PFL Academic Honor Roll
The Butler football team placed 61 players on the Pioneer League’s 2012 Honor Roll. There were 468 athletes named total.

National Football Foundation Honors Bill Sylvester
Former Butler head football coach and athletic director Bill Sylvester has been named recipient of the Distinguished American Award from the National Football Foundation/College Hall of Fame Central Indiana Chapter. He will receive his award at the organization’s annual banquet at the Indianapolis Colts Complex on Feb. 23.

Ridley, Heeter, Burke Earn Football MVP Awards
Senior Jordan Ridley, junior Trae Heeter and sophomore David Burke earned Butler football Most Valuable Player awards for the Bulldogs’ 2012 championship season. The three MVP’s were among a host of players honored at the team’s annual season-ending awards banquet on Sunday, Jan. 20.

Butler Places Nine Players On PFL Academic Squad
Nine Butler players, including Academic All-American Jayme Szafranski, have been selected to the 2012 Academic All-Pioneer Football League Team, released by the league office on Wednesday (Dec. 12). The Bulldogs, who shared the PFL championship in 2012, had the second-highest total of honorees in the league.

Twelve Butler Players Earn All-PFL Recognition
Twelve players from Butler’s league champion football team, headed by three-time first team pick Jordan Ridley, have been selected to the 2012 All-Pioneer Football League Team, released by the league office on Tuesday (Dec. 11). The 20th All-PFL team was chosen by a vote of league coaches.

Bulldogs Capture Top Pioneer Football League Honors
Butler, already owning a share of the top team honor, swept three of the top five individual awards presented by the Pioneer Football League. Junior quarterback Matt Lancaster was named PFL Offensive Player of the Year, freshman defensive tackle Kyle Annis was tabbed Freshman Defensive Player of the Year and head coach Jeff Voris was named Coach of the Year by a vote of league coaches.

Jayme Szafranski Named Academic All-America
Junior defensive back Jayme Szafranski, who helped lead Butler to a share of the 2012 Pioneer Football League championship, has been named to the second team of the 2012 Capital One Academic All-America Division I Football Team, chosen by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). He’s the fifth Butler player all-time to receive the prestigious honor.

Piatkowski Passes Drake Past Butler
Quarterback Mike Piatkowski passed for 366 yards and five touchdowns to lead host Drake to a 45-20 victory over Butler at Drake Stadium on Saturday, Nov. 10. The loss kept Butler from securing outright possession of the Pioneer Football League championship.

Jayme Szafranski Named Academic All-District
Junior defensive back Jayme Szafranski, who has been a top defensive performer for Butler’s championship football squad this fall, has been named to the 2012 Capital One Academic All-District V football team, chosen by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). His selection makes him a candidate for the 2012 Capital One Academic All-America Team.

League Champ Butler Ends Season At Drake
Butler, having already clinched a tie for the league title, can claim outright possession of the Pioneer Football League championship when it visits Drake on Saturday, Nov. 10. The showdown between the PFL’s top two teams is set for 2 p.m. (ET) at Drake Stadium.

Junior quarterback Matt Lancaster, who helped lead Butler to a victory over Jacksonville and a share of the 2012 Pioneer Football League title, has been named PFL Co-Offensive Player of the Week. He shared the league’s weekly honor with Valparaiso running back Jake Hutson.

Bulldogs Clinch Share Of League Title
Junior quarterback Matt Lancaster stretched every inch of his body to reach the goal line in the closing seconds, and his effort gave Butler a 19-16 come-from-behind victory over Jacksonville and a share of the Pioneer Football League championship. The dramatic win at the Butler Bowl on Saturday (Nov. 3) boosted the Bulldogs to 8-2 on the year and 7-0 in the PFL.

Butler Remains Unbeaten In PFL
Junior Trae Heeter rushed for a career-high 231 yards and scored a pair of touchdowns to help lead visiting Butler to a 31-20 victory over Davidson at Richardson Stadium on Saturday (Oct. 27). The win lifted the Bulldogs to 6-0 in the Pioneer Football League and gave Butler sole possession of first place in the league standings.

Brendan Shannon Named PFL Player of the Week
Junior Brandon Shannon, who turned in a career night in Butler’s come-from-behind victory over Morehead State, has been named Pioneer Football League Offensive Player of the Week. He’s the fourth Butler player to be honored by the PFL this fall.

Bulldogs Rally For Thrilling Homecoming Victory
Quarterback Matt Lancaster tossed three touchdown passes in the final nine minutes of the game, and Butler rallied from a 35-17 deficit to capture a 39-35 Homecoming victory over Morehead State on Saturday (Oct. 20). The thrilling win at the Butler Bowl kept the Bulldogs unbeaten in the Pioneer Football League.

Butler Hosts Morehead State In Homecoming Tilt
Butler will look to maintain at least a share of first place in the Pioneer Football League when it celebrates its 2012 Homecoming game against Morehead State on Saturday, Oct. 20. The contest against the visiting Eagles will start at 6 p.m. (ET) in the Butler Bowl.

Jeremy Stephens Named PFL Player of the Week
Junior Jeremy Stephens, who helped spark Butler to a strong defensive performance in a victory at Marist, has been named Pioneer Football League Defensive Player of the Week. He’s the third Butler player to be honored by the PFL this fall.

Butler Holds Off Marist; Remains Unbeaten In PFL
Junior quarterback Matt Lancaster passed for 241 yards and a touchdowns and Butler stopped a late comeback attempt by host Marist to post a 17-14 victory at Tenney Stadium on Saturday (Oct. 13). The victory kept the Bulldogs atop the Pioneer Football League with a perfect 4-0 league record.

Butler’s season of firsts continues when the Bulldogs make their first visit to Poughkeepsie, N.Y., for a Pioneer Football League game against Marist. The league test on Saturday, Oct. 13, will start at noon (ET) at Marist’s Tenney Stadium.

Bulldogs Roll Past Valparaiso
Quarterback Matt Lancaster passed for 246 yards and three touchdowns and running back Trae Heeter added three rushing touchdowns to power visiting Butler past Valparaiso, 56-17, in a Pioneer Football League game at Brown Field on Saturday (Oct. 5). The victory kept the Bulldogs perfect in three PFL outings this season.

Bulldogs Face First League Road Trip
Butler, 2-0 in the Pioneer Football League for the first time since 2009, will try to continue its strong start when it faces its first league road test at Valparaiso on Saturday, Oct. 6. The 1 p.m. (CT, 2 p.m. in Indianapolis) game at Valparaiso’s Brown Field will be the first of consecutive PFL road games for the Bulldogs.

Junior running back Trae Heeter, who who broke two long touchdown runs to help spark Butler’s league victory over Dayton, has been named Pioneer Football League Offensive Player of the Week. He’s the second Butler player to be honored by the PFL this fall.

Late TD Seals Win Over Dayton
Junior Trae Heeter busted out two long touchdown runs and the Bulldog defense held Dayton in check as the Butler football team defeated the rival Flyers 21-11 at the Butler Bowl.

Junior Trae Heeter rushed for a career-high 204 yards and two touchdowns and Butler pulled away to hand visiting Campbell a 35-14 setback at the Butler Bowl on Saturday (Sept. 22). It was the Pioneer Football League opener for both teams.

Host Dartmouth used a balanced offensive attack and a resilient defense to stifle Butler, 35-7, in a non-conference test at Memorial Field in Hanover, N.H., on Saturday evening (Sept. 15). It was the Bulldogs’ first game against a team from the Ivy League.

A season of firsts for Butler football will continue when the Bulldogs travel to Hanover, N.H., for a night game against Dartmouth. The 6 p.m. (ET) contest at Dartmouth’s Memorial Field will be Butler’s first game against a team from the Ivy League.

Butler Dominates Franklin In Home Opener
In its home opener and first game under the lights since 1941, the Butler football team captured a commanding 42-13 win over in-state foe Franklin in a non-conference game Saturday at the Butler Bowl. The Bulldogs were led by junior quarterback Matt Lancaster, who threw for three touchdowns and rushed for two more.

Butler defensive back Sean Grady, who turned in a career-best performance in the Bulldogs’ season-opening football game at Western Illinois, has been named Pioneer Football League Defensive Player of the Week. He was one of three players honored with the league’s weekly award.

Bulldogs Fall At Western Illinois, 23-15
A malfunctioning clock put a strange ending on Butler’s furious comeback attempt and the Bulldogs wound up dropping a 23-15 decision to host Western Illinois at Hanson Field on Thursday (Aug. 28). It was the first game of 2012 for both teams.

Butler will open the 2012 football season on the road with a rare Thursday night contest when it visits Western Illinois on August 30. The 6 p.m. (CT, 7 p.m. in Indianapolis) non-conference contest at Western Illinois’ Hanson Field will be the earliest season-opener ever for the Bulldogs!

PFL Gains NCAA Automatic Bid
Beginning in 2013, the Pioneer Football League will gain access to the Division I Football Championship through an automatic bid as a result of the NCAA Board of Directors approving a budget that will allow expansion of the tournament to 24 teams that season.

Jordan Ridley Earns Preseason All-America Honor
Butler linebacker Jordan Ridley has been named to the 2012 FCS Senior Scout Bowl Preseason All-America Football Team, announced by the Collegiate Development Football League (CDFL). The Butler senior was named to the North Defense First Team.

Ridley, Storey Named Preseason All-PFL
Butler seniors Jordan Ridley and Matt Storey have been named to the 2012 Preseason All-Pioneer Football League Team, release by the league office on Tuesday (July 31). The two Butler standouts were among 29 players recognized on the preseason squad.

Butler Tabbed Seventh In Pioneer Football League
Butler, faced with replacing 15 starters from a year ago, has been picked to finish seventh in the annual Pioneer Football League preseason coaches’ poll. Defending PFL co-champion San Diego was the favorite among the coaches to repeat as league champion in the poll released on Monday (July 30).
