Jeremy Stephens Named PFL Player of the Week

INDIANAPOLIS, IND. -- Junior Jeremy Stephens, who helped spark Butler to a strong defensive performance in a victory at Marist, has been named Pioneer Football League Defensive Player of the Week.  He's the third Butler player to be honored by the PFL this fall.

Stephens notched a career-high 11 tackles against the Red Foxes, while helping Butler post a 17-14 win.  The victory lifted the Bulldogs to 4-0 in the PFL.  The Butler defensive end recorded two-and-a-half quarterback sacks, including one that halted a Marist drive that had reached the Butler 34-yard line early in the fourth quarter.  Butler's defense limited Marist to just 96 rushing yards.

The former Lawrence Central High School standout leads the PFL in quarterback sacks on the season with 6.5.

Stephens joins defensive back Sean Grady (Sept. 1) as Butler players to be named PFL Defensive Player of the Week.  Running back Trae Heeter was named PFL Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 29.

Butler will try to remain unbeaten in the PFL when it hosts Morehead State on Saturday, Oct. 20.  The Bullddogs' Homecoming contest will start at 6 p.m. (ET).
