Brendan Shannon Named PFL Player of the Week
INDIANAPOLIS, IND. -- Junior Brandon Shannon, who turned in a career night in Butler's come-from-behind victory over Morehead State, has been named Pioneer Football League Offensive Player of the Week. He's the fourth Butler player to be honored by the PFL this fall.
Shannon caught three touchdown passes against the Eagles, including the game-winner with just 1:22 left in the contest. He scored the game's first touchdown just 19 seconds after the start, and then he grabbed a pair of fourth quarter scoring aerials to spark the Bulldogs, who trailed 35-17 with less than nine minutes remaining.
The Butler wide receiver caught five total passes in the final period for 79 yards. He caught an 11-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Matt Lancaster with 8:44 left on the clock to cut the Morehead State margin to 35-24. His final catch covered 17 yards and put the Bulldogs in front, 39-35.
Shannon finished the night with a career-high 14 receptions for a career-best 233 yards. His 14 catches tied the second-highest single game total in Butler football history, while his 233 yards stand as the second-highest total ever for the Bulldogs. His three touchdown catches were one shy of the school record.
Butler's leading pass receiver on the season, Shannon currently ranks second in the PFL in receptions per game (6.5) and in the league in receiving yards per game (86.6). He ranks third in the league in touchdowns (7) and sixth in the circuit in scoring (5.2 ppg).
Shannon joins running back Trae Heeter (Sept. 29) as Butler players named PFL Offensive Player of the Week. Defensive end Jeremy Stephens (Oct. 13) and defensive back Sean Grady (Sept. 1) each were named PFL Defensive Player of the Week this season.
Butler will try to maintain its unbeaten record in the PFL when it visits Davidson on Saturday, Oct. 27. That contest in Davidson, N.C., will start at noon (ET).
