Trae Heeter Earns PFL Recognition
INDIANAPOLIS, IND. -- Senior Trae Heeter put on one of the top rushing performances in the NCAA Division I FCS this year, and his effort earned him Pioneer Football League Offensive Player of the Week honors for the first full weekend of league play.
Heeter, who led the PFL in rushing a year ago, ran for 222 yards and two touchdowns on 34 carries in Butler's 45-27 victory at Jacksonville. It was the tenth-highest single game rushing performance in the FCS this year and the highest in the PFL. Heeter finished just eight rushing yards shy of his own personal-high, set against Davidson last season.
The former Lawrence North High School standout gained 178 yards in the second half, when the Bulldogs out-scored Jacksonville, 38-14, to nail down the come-from-behind victory. He picked up 138 yards and scored on runs of 11 yards and two yards in the fourth quarter to help secure Butler's first win in five trips to Jacksonville.
Butler (3-2) will begin a stretch of three consecutive home games with a contest against new PFL member Stetson on Saturday, Oct. 5.
