Patrick Doherty is in his second season with the Bulldogs, he has responsibility for the Bulldogs’ running backs. In his first season with the Bulldogs, Butler's running backs unit saw great success on the field. Junior Trae Heeter led all PFL running backs with a total of 1,103 rushing yards, 10 rushing touchdowns, and a 6.6 yards per carry average. Heeter earned First Team All PFL Honors and finished the 2012 season ranked in the top 20 of all FCS running backs. Heeter was on many 2013 preseason awards watch lists. In the classroom, the running backs did very well as six finished the year with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
Prior to Butler, Doherty was a student assistant coach at Franklin College where he worked with Franklin’s running backs, tight ends and quarterbacks during his four seasons with the Grizzlies, and he helped the NCAA Division III squad to a four-year 37-9 record, three conference championships and three NCAA playoff appearances. He earned his degree in K-12 Physical Education and Health from Franklin in May of 2012.
