Kenan Smith is in his second season as an assistant coach at Butler, and he’s responsible for the Bulldogs’ receivers. He joined the Butler staff after spending one season as a graduate assistant coach in charge of wide receivers at Anderson University. He also served as a football operations volunteer intern at Ball State during the summer of 2010. A two-sport athlete at Sacramento State (1999-2003), Smith began his post-graduation career as a marketing intern in the athletic department at the University of Michigan. He served as Assistant Director of Marketing & Promotions at Michigan from 2006 to 2009. His duties at Michigan included working with football, men’s basketball, women’s basketball, corporate hospitality, print/design projects and managing the student intern program. Smith was an all-conference wide receiver in football and a sprinter on the track team as an undergraduate at Sacramento State. He served as a football team captain as a senior and finished his collegiate career ranked in the school’s “Top 10” list for all-time receptions. Off the field, he served for three years on the NCAA Division I Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. Smith earned a degree in business administration from Sacramento State in 2005, and he’s done additional work toward a master’s degree in business administration at Anderson.
