Seasons at Butler: 2nd season
Jason Underwood, who spent last year as a part-time assistant coach at Butler, is in his first season as a full-time assistant coach with the Bulldogs. He has primary responsibility for Butler's defensive line.

Underwood joined head coach Kit Cartwright's Butler staff as an assistant offensive line coach in 2003. He worked with the Bulldogs offensive line during the 2003 campaign and then switched to the defensive line during Butler's spring drills. His promotion, along with the recent appointments of assistant coaches Kyle Conner and Rusty Wright, completes Cartwright's full-time staff for 2004.

A former offensive lineman at the University of Tennessee at Martin, Underwood spent one year on the football coaching staff at UT-Martin before coming to Butler. He coached both tight ends and the offensive line at UT-Martin, while assisting with recruiting and strength and conditioning. Underwood began his collegiate playing career as an offensive lineman at Louisiana State University in 1997. He played three seasons at LSU and helped the Tigers to a Peach Bowl Championship in 2000. He transferred to UT-Martin and started all 11 games for the Skyhawks in 2001.

The 25-year-old coach earned a bachelor's degree from UT-Martin in 2002.
