The Flyers scored the first seven times they had the ball and maintained control of the game from the opening kickoff. Dayton drove 58 yards on 11 plays on its first possession and took an early 7-0 lead on quarterback Kelly Spiker's one-yard run.
That lead grew to 27-0 by halftime. Hurps scored a pair of first half touchdowns on runs of two and 18 yards and placekicker Jesse Obert nailed field goals of 36 and 44 yards. The Flyers rolled up 16 first downs and 299 yards in the first stanza!

Butler's best scoring opportunity came in the fourth quarter when quarterback Travis Delph led the Bulldogs on a 66-yard march to the Dayton 14-yard line. Key to the drive were 20-yard passes to Adam Lafferty and Kyle Derickson. But the Flyers maintained the shutout when Todd Thobe intercepted a Delph pass in the end zone.
