Butler Brothers Named To All-PFL Team

Butler brothers Chris and Mike Marzotto have been named to the 2006 All-Pioneer Football League Team, selected by league head coaches. Chris Marzotto was selected as a first team defensive lineman for the second consecutive year, while Mike Marzotto was tabbed as a second team linebacker.

The two brothers were Butler's lone first and second team representatives. Unbeaten league champ San Diego led the all-league team with nine first team selections and six second team picks, while league runner-up Drake had seven first team players and eight second team members. Davidson had six first team players and three second team picks, Morehead State had three players on each squad, Dayton had two picks on each team, Jacksonville had one first team pick and four second team players, and Valparaiso had one first team selection and two second team picks.

Chris Marzotto was one of 12 repeat honorees from the 2005 All-PFL team. He led the 3-8 Bulldogs in tackles for loss (12.5) and quarterback sacks (7.0), while finishing seventh on the team in total tackles (33). Mike Marzotto, an honorable mention pick a year ago, led the team in total tackles (91), while finishing second in both tackles for loss (9.5) and quarterback sacks (4.0).

The Bulldogs had three additional players receive honorable mention on the all-league team. Junior Nate Miller was tabbed as a wide receiver, sophomore Jordan Quiroz was named as a placekicker and senior Phil Buchanan was selected as a punter for the second consecutive year.

San Diego quarterback Josh Johnson was chosen by league coaches as the PFL Offensive Player of the Year, while linebacker James Adams of Drake and defensive lineman Eric Bakhtiari of San Diego were named Co-Defensive Players of the Year. Defensive back Gabe Derricks of San Diego was chosen Freshman of the Year, while Jim Harbaugh of San Diego and Tripp Merritt of Davidson were named Co-Coaches of the Year.
