Bulldogs Finish 11th At Crooked Stick Invitational
CARMEL, IND. – Butler, facing a strong tournament field,
closed with its best round, but still wound up 11th at the Crooked
Stick Invitational, which wrapped up at Crooked Stick Golf Club on
Tuesday, April 20. Illinois won the 54-hole tournament,
hosted by Indiana.
Senior Kyle Thomas paced the Bulldogs with a three-round total of 223 and a 19th place individual finish. He shot a 74 in the opening round, posted a 76 in the second round and then closed with a 73. His final round score was the best posted by a Butler player in the tournament.
Freshman Andrew Wegeng tied for 33rd at 231 (79-78-74), while his brother, junior Ryan, carded three straight rounds of 79 and tied for 49th at 237. Freshman Matt Vogt was 59th with a 247 (79-88-80), and sophomore Alex Walker came in 61st at 252 (81-86-85).
Chris DeForest of Illinois captured individual medalist honors with a 54-hole score of six-under-par 207. He shot a 69 in the first round, a 67 in the second round and then closed with a 71.
Butler posted a team score of 311 in the opening round and then came back with a 319 in the second round. The Bulldogs closed with a 306 for a three-round score of 936.
