Butler Finishes Eighth At The Fairway Club Invitational
Freshman Matt Vogt shot a final round
one-under-par 71 to grab a “Top 10” individual finish
and help Butler to an eighth place team finish at the Fairway Club
Invitational, hosted by Nebraska at ArborLinks Golf Course on
Monday and Tuesday (Sept. 14-15). Drake led wire-to-wire and
captured the team title in the 12-team meet.
Vogt, who entered the final round of the 54-hole tournament in a
tie for 17th place, turned in the Bulldogs’ best round of the
final day to climb into a tie for 10th place. He shot an
even-par 72 in the first round and carded a 74 in the second round
to finish with a three-round total of one-over-par 217.
Senior Kyle Thomas, Butler’s scoring leader
through the first two rounds, finished two strokes behind Vogt and
in a tie for 20th place. Thomas shot a 74 in the first round,
a two-under-par 70 in the second round and then closed with a
75.
Freshman Andrew Wegeng finished third for the
Bulldogs and tied for 48th overall with a three-round total of 230
(77-76-77), while freshman Colin Reenan tied for
61st at 237 (82-81-74). Junior Ryan Wegeng
tied for 66th with a 54-hole total of 240 (85-81-74).
Drake, paced by individual medalist Cody Schweinefus (69-68-70,
207), led at the completion of each round and finished with a
54-hole team score of 852, three strokes better than runner-up
Nebraska. Kansas (859) finished third, followed by Illinois
State (872), UMKC (879), Western Illinois (887), Northern Colorado
(899), Butler (900), Creighton (903), Missouri State (905), South
Dakota State (908) and North Dakota (925).
