Butler Ties For 12th At D. A. Weibring Intercollegiate
Butler lost ground in the final round of the tournament and
wound up tied for 12th in the final team standings of the D. A.
Weibring Intercollegiate, hosted by Illinois State
University. The two-day, 54-hole tournament at Weibring Golf
Club concluded on Monday (Oct. 12).
Butler shot and opening round 303 and then came back with a 305 and
stood in eighth place after two rounds. But the Bulldogs
slipped to a 312 in the final round and wound up with a 54-hole
total of 920, five strokes behind eighth place finisher Eastern
Illinois.
Senior Kyle Thomas and freshman Andrew
Wegeng paced Butler and tied for 26th place in the final
individual standings. Thomas shot rounds of 77, 76 and 75 for
a three-round total of 228, while Wegeng carded three straight
rounds of 76,
Sophomore Jordan Mack shot a 76 and a 75 in the
first two rounds, but slipped to 80 in the final round and wound up
tied for 44th place with a 231. Freshman Matt
Vogt, Butler’s first round leader with a 74, carded
a 78 in the second round and an 81 in the final round to tie for
50th place at 233. Junior Ryan Wegeng
rounded out Butler’s five-man scoring team with a 238
(78-79-81) and a tie for 69th place.
Freshman Colin Reenan, playing as a non-scoring
individual, tied for 35th place with a two-day score of 229
(82-71-76).
Illinois State won the tournament crown with a final team score of
873, 15 strokes better than runner-up Western Illinois. Jeff
Kellen of Illinois State captured medalist honors with a 54-hole
score of one-under-par 209.
