Butler Finishes 10th At Dayton Flyer Invitational
Freshman Andrew Wegeng shot the best back-to-back rounds of his
young collegiate career to capture a “Top Five”
individual finish and help Butler to a 10th place team finish at
the Dayton Flyer Invitational, which finished in Kettering, Ohio,
on Tuesday (Oct. 20). The tournament was Butler’s final
competition of the fall season.
Wegeng shot a team-best 74 and was tied for ninth after the opening
round of the 17-team tournament at NCR Country Club. He
followed that with a 75 on the final day and moved into a tie for
fifth place in the final individual standings. His final
score of 149 was his best 36-hole total this fall.
Two of Wegeng’s teammates, including his brother Ryan, tied
for 42nd in the final standings. Ryan, playing as a
non-scoring individual, shot a 79 and a 77 for a two-round score of
156, a total matched by senior Kyle Thomas, who carded rounds of 77
and 79.
Sophomore Jordan Mack finished one stroke back in a tie for 50th
place with rounds of 82 and 75, while freshman Matt Vogt tied for
65th at 160 (77-83). Freshman Colin Reenan rounded out
Butler’s five-player scoring team with a tie for 76th place
at 162 (82-80).
The Bulldogs posted a team score of 310 in the first round and then
finished with a 309 for a two-day total of 619. Ball State
won the team crown with a 36-hole score of 596, five strokes better
than runner-up Toledo.
