Bulldogs Win Men's Big Four Classic
CARMEL, IND. -- Sophomore Alex Walker tied for medalist honors
and Butler swept the next four individual spots to grab the team
title at the Big Four Classic on Thursday, April 7. The
annual four-team event was held at Crooked Stick Golf Club in
Carmel.
Walker shot a two-over-par 74 to tie Chase King of DePauw for the
top individual spot. The Butler golfer matched the best front
nine score of the day with a 37 and then carded another 37 on the
back nine. He had three birdies on the day, and he led the
tournament in both par 3 scoring (-1) and par 4 scoring (+2).
Sophomore Matt Vitale, who topped the meet in par 5 scoring (-2),
finished third in the individual standings, one stroke behind the
co-leaders. He matched King for the tournament’s best
back-nine total with a 36.
Sophomore Andrew Wegeng came in fourth with a 76, while senior
Ryan Wegeng and sophomore Colin Reenan tied for fifth at 78.
Reenan led the tournament in birdies with four, while Andrew Wegeng
had a meet-high 14 pars.
Junior Jordan Mack finished in a tie for seventh with an 18-hole
total of 80.
Butler posted a team score of 303 and finished 25 strokes ahead of
runner-up Hanover. DePauw came in third at 336, while Wabash
posted a team score of 340.
