Ryan Wegeng Leads Butler At League Tournament

HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, FLA. -- Senior Ryan Wegeng put together three solid rounds and posted a "Top 10" individual finish to lead Butler at the 2011 Horizon League Men's Golf Championship, held in Florida.  The 54-hole tournament at Mission Inn Golf and Tennis Resort concluded on Sunday (April 24).

Wegeng was one of just seven golfers to break 80 in all three rounds.  He carded a 77 in the opening round, shot a 79 in the second round and then closed with a 77 for a 54-hole total of 233.  He finished in a tie for ninth place with Sean Collopy of Loyola.

Sophomore Colin Reenan tied for 21st with a three-round total of 239 (79-80-80), while sophomore Matt Vitale tied for 26th at 241 (84-77-80).  Sophomore Andrew Wegeng finished 32nd with a three-day score of 243 (80-79-84) and junior Alex Walker came in 38th at 250 (89-80-81).

Cleveland State captured the team title with a 54-hole total of 925, seven strokes better than runner-up Wright State.  Butler placed eighth in the team competition.
