Bulldogs Finish 12th At Fairway Club Invitational
LINCOLN, NEB. -- Butler carded its best round on the final day
of the tournament, but still slipped in the team standings at the
Fairway Club Invitational, which wrapped up on Tuesday (Sept.
14). The Bulldogs, who entered the final round in a tie for
10th place, wound up finishing 12th.
The tournament, scheduled for three rounds, was shortened to 36 holes after repeated weather delays. Butler shot a 307 in the opening round on Monday (Sept. 13) and then closed with a 305. South Dakota, tied with Butler after one round, carded a 298 in the final round, while Oral Roberts, trailing Butler by two strokes on the first day, edged the Bulldogs by a single stroke in the final standings.
Sophomore Andrew Wegeng paced Butler with rounds of 76 and two-under-par 70. His final total of 146 left him in a tie for 13th place in the final individual standings. Sophomore Matt Vogt tied for 45th place with a 36-hole total of 153 (74-79), while senior Ryan Wegeng tied for 57th place with a final score of 156 (79-77).
Junior Ben Nichele finished in a tie for 60th place at 157 (78-79), and junior Alex Walker tied for 67th with a final total of 161 (82-79).
UMKC captured the tournament championship with a team total of 576, while Missouri State finished second, three strokes back. Host Nebraska came in third with a 36-hole total of 582.
