Butler Places 12th At John Piper Intercollegiate
BOWLING GREEN, OHIO -- Sophomore Andrew Wegeng tied for 30th in
the individual competition and Butler finished 12th in the team
race at the weather-shortened John Piper Intercollegiate Tournament
in Bowling Green, Ohio. The final round of the 54-hole
tournament at Stone Ridge Golf Club was cancelled because of rain
on Tuesday (Sept. 28).
Andrew Wegeng shot a 76 in the opening round on Monday (Sept. 27)
morning and then carded a team-best 75 in the Monday afternoon
round for a 36-hole total of 151. His brother, Ryan, and
sophomore Matt Vogt tied for 55th at 156. Ryan Wegeng shot
rounds of 79 and 77, while Vogt posted a team-best 75 in the
opening round and then finished with an 81.
Freshman Parker Sheppard was Butler’s fourth finisher and
70th overall with rounds of 87 and 81 (168), while junior Jordan
Mack placed 72nd with a two-round total of 171 (86-85).
Freshman Matt Vitale, playing as a non-scoring individual, tied for
60th with rounds of 78 and 79 (157).
Host Bowling Green won the team title with a score of 580
(291-289), while Drew Preston of Bowling Green captured medalist
honors with a five-under-par 139 (70-69).
