Bulldogs Place Sixth At Dayton Invitational
KETTERING, OHIO -- Sophomore Andrew Wegeng posted a “Top
15” individual finish and Butler tied for sixth in the team
race at the Dayton Flyer Invitational held at the NCR South Golf
Course on Monday and Tuesday (Oct. 18-19). Evansville won the
13-team meet.
Wegeng shot back-to-back rounds of 75 to pace the Bulldogs with a
36-hole total of 150. He finished in a tie for 14th place,
just one stroke out of 11th place and two strokes shy of a
“Top 10” finish. Michael Davan of IUPUI captured
individual medalist honors with a two-day total of 145.
Sophomore Matt Vitale finished second for the Bulldogs and tied
for 28th overall with rounds of 74 and 79 (153), while sophomore
Matt Vogt and senior Ryan Wegeng tied for 32nd place, one stroke
back. Vogt posted rounds of 76 and 78, while Ryan Wegeng
carded a first-round 74 and then finished with an 80. Junior
Ben Nichele was Butler’s fifth golfer, placing 78th with
rounds of 87 and 84 (171).
Junior Jordan Mack, playing as a non-scoring individual, tied for
60th in the final individual standings with back-to-back rounds of
81 (162).
Butler, fueled by the opening rounds of Vitale and Ryan Wegeng,
posted a team score of 299 on the first day and entered the final
round in fourth place. But the Bulldogs slipped to 312 on the
second day and wound up with a 36-hole score of 611, five strokes
behind Wright State in fifth place.
