Andrew Wegeng Named League Golfer of the Week
INDIANAPOLIS, IND. -- Junior Andrew Wegeng, who captured
medalist honors at the Bulldog Florida Invitational, has been named
the Horizon League’s first Men’s Golfer of the Week for
2012 spring season.
Wegeng shot a five-under-par 139 at the 36-hole Bulldog Florida
Invitational, hosted by Butler at Windsor Parke Golf Course in
Jacksonville, Fla., and finished five strokes ahead of runner-up
Gino Parrodi of Eastern Illinois. The tournament medalist
shot a three-under-par 69 to grab the opening round lead and then
closed with a two-under-par 70 to hold the top spot.
His two-day total broke the previous Butler 36-hole tournament
record of 143, set by Jonathan Novak at the Lipscomb Fall Classic
in 2002.
Two days earlier, Wegeng placed sixth in the 72-player field at the
Don Benbow Invitational, played at Jacksonville Beach Golf
Course. The Butler scoring leader shot a 76 on the first day
of the 36-hole tournament and then finished with a three-unde-par
68 on the final day. His two-round total of 144 was just four
strokes out of first place in the tournament.
The next action for Butler’s golf team will be at the Butler
Spring Invitational on Monday and Tuesday, March 26-27. The
36-hole tournament will be played at Prestwick Country Club in
Avon, Ind.
