AVON, IND. -- Butler’s women grabbed the first round lead,
while Butler’s men stood second after the initial 18 holes at
the Butler Spring Invitational, being held at Prestwick Country
Club in Avon, Ind. The 36-hole tournament will conclude on
Tuesday, March 27.
Senior Michele Nash and junior Julia Porter sparked Butler’s
women with identical rounds of five-over-par 76. The two will
head into the final round in a tie for second place in the
individual standings, one stroke behind first day leader Cathy
Doyle of Evansville.
Freshman Jenna Peters finished the first day in a tie for fifth
place with an 81, while freshman Isabella Lambert was tied for 11th
with an 83. Senior Clare Cornelius shot an opening-round 84
and stood in a tie for 13th place.
Senior Alex Walker topped Butler’s men in the first round
with a one-over-par 73. He’s enter the final round in a
tie for fourth place. Juniors Andrew Wegeng and Colin Reenan
each carded a first-day 75, while senior Jordan Mack shot a
76. Freshman Andrew Eiler finished the first round with an
81.
Butler’s women posted a team total of 316 and will begin the
final round with an 18-stroke lead over second place
Evansville. Butler’s men shot a team score of 299, 10
strokes behind first round leader Dayton.
