Butler Places 12th At Bluegrass Invitational

LEXINGTON, KY. -- Butler shot its best round of the tournament on the final day and wound up in 12th place at the UK Bluegrass Fall Invitational golf tournament, hosted by the University of Kentucky on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 17-18.  The host Wildcats won the 15-team meet.

Junior Andrew Wegeng led the Bulldogs in the final round with an even-par 71 on the University Club of Kentucky layout.  Wegeng was one of 14 golfers in the 84-player field to shoot par or better on the final day.  He opened the tournament with a 72 and then shot a 75 in the second round and eventually finished in a tie for ninth place in the final individual standings with a five-over-par 218.

Freshman Andrew Eiler tied for 46th in the tournament with a 54-hole score of 227 (79-75-73), while senior Jordan Mack tied for 68th at 232 (84-76-72).  Junior Matt Vitale came in 75th with a three-round score of 235 (83-80-72) and junior Colin Reenan finished in a tie for 78th at 238 (77-79-82).

The Bulldogs opened the tournament with a team score of 311 and then improved to 305 in the second round.  On the final day, Butler improved by 17 strokes and carded a 288 for a final total of 904.  Morehead State was 10th at 901, while Tennessee-Martin was 11th at 903.
