Butler Places Ninth At Dayton Invitational

KETTERING, OHIO -- Junior Andrew Wegeng notched a "Top 15" individual finish and Butler claimed ninth place in the men's final team standings at the 2011 Dayton Fall Invitational, which concluded on Tuesday, Oct. 18.

Wegeng was tied for eighth place heading into the final round at the NCR South Course, after shooting a two-over-par 73 in the opening round.  He carded a four-over-par 75 on the final day and wound up in a tie for 13th place at 148.  The Butler scoring leader tied for fourth in the tournament with 25 pars over the 36 holes.

Junior Matt Vitale finished in a tie for 34th place with rounds of 80 and 73 (153), while freshman Andrew Eiler tied for 47th with a two-day total of 156 (80-76).  Junior Alex Walker was one stroke back at 157 (79-78) in a tie for 49th place, while senior Jordan Mack tied for 58th place with a final score of 158 (81-77).

Junior Colin Reenan, playing as a non-scoring individual, tied for 70th with rounds of 82 and 80 (162).

The Bulldogs, who were tied for ninth place after shooting a team score of 312 in the opening round, carded a 301 in the final round.  All five Butler golfers shot 78 or better on the final day.

IUPUI won the 16-team tournament in a playoff with host Dayton.  Both teams finished with a 36-hole score of 585.  Michael Davan of IUPUI claimed medalist honors with a score of three-under-par 139 (71-68).

Butler will close out its fall schedule at the Kiawah Island Intercollegiate in South Carolina, Oct. 30-Nov. 1.
