Bulldogs Place 13th At Kiawah Classic

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. -- Junior Andrew Wegeng shot three rounds of 76 or better and helped lead Butler to a 13th place team finish at the 21-team Wendy's Kiawah Classic golf tournament, which wrapped up at Turtle Point Golf Course on Tuesday (Nov. 1).  The tournament was Butler's final fall competition.

Wegeng opened the 54-hole tournament in South Carolina with a 76 and then carded back-to-back rounds of 75 for a three-round total of 10-over-par 226.  He finished in a tie for 21st place in the final individual standings.

Teammate Alex Walker came in two strokes back at 228 and tied for 28th.  He had the Bulldogs' best single round score in the tournament with an even-par 72, which included a hole-in-one, on the second day.  Senior Jordan Mack tied for 60th at 237 (80-77-80), junior Matt Vitale tied for 72nd with a 239 (84-77-78) and freshman Andrew Eiler tied for 96th at 251 (82-86-83).

The Bulldogs shot an opening round 313 and were tied for 11th place, before climbing up to ninth place with a 301 in the second round.  Butler finished the tournament with a 314 for a three-round score of 928.

Kennesaw State and Campbell tied for first place in the tournament with team scores of 881.  Vaita Guillaume of Campbell and Andres Pumariega of George Washington tied for medalist honors with 54-hole scores of 214.
