Bulldogs Finish Tenth At Hoosier Invitational

BLOOMINGTON, IND. -- Junior Andrew Wegeng (right) shot a two-over-par 215 to tie for 12th in the individual standings and help Butler to a tenth place team finish at the 54-hole NYX Hoosier Invitational, which wrapped up at the IU Golf Course in Bloomington on Sunday, April 8.  Northwestern won the 16-team competition.

Wegeng opened the tournament with a two-under-par 69 on Saturday, April 7.  He followed that effort with a one-over-par 72 and a three-over-par 74.  He tied with Michael Davan of IUPUI and Brendan Leonard of Detroit in the final individual standings.

Butler freshman Andrew Eiler carded rounds of 76, 74 and 72 (222) and finished in a tie for 43rd place, while senior Alex Walker came in with rounds of 80, 68 and 75 (223) to tie for 48th place.  Walker's three-under-par 68 in the second round was the best 18-hole score by a Butler player in the tournament.

Junior Colin Reenan tied for 53rd place with rounds of 74, 74 and 76 (224), and senior Jordan Mack tied for 66th with scores of 75, 75 and 79 (229).

The Bulldogs shot a team score of 294 in the opening round and then came back with a 288 in the second round, before finishing with a 297.  Butler's team score of 879 was one stroke behind IPFW in ninth place.

Butler will take a week off before returning to action at the Earl Yestingsmeier Invitational, hosted by Ball State, on Saturday and Sunday, April 21-22.
