Bulldogs End Opening Round Tied For Sixth
HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, FLA. -- Butler junior Andrew Wegeng climbed into contention in the individual competition on the first day of 2012 Horizon League Men's Golf Championship at Mission Inn Golf and Tennis Resort on Friday, April 27. Butler ended the opening round in a tie for sixth place in the team competition.
Wegeng shot an opening round 74 and was one of five players tied for third place in the individual race. Michael Nedoszytko of Detroit, who carded a 72, ended the day as the tournament leader, while Kyle Henning of Valparaiso, who shot a 73, stood second.
Butler senior Jordan Mack opened with a 78, which tied for 20th, while junior Colin Reenan carded an 81, which left him tied for 29th. Senior Alex Walker and freshman Andrew Eiler both finished the first day in a tie for 31st place with rounds of 82.
Green Bay jumped to the team lead with a first round score of 301, two strokes ahead of Detroit. Butler finished the first day with a team score of 315.
The 54-hole league championship will continue on Saturday, April 28.
